Ph.D. Track: Medical Humanities and Clinical Ethics

Brigitte Swartwood is a first-year Ph.D. student in the American Studies department at IUPUI.  She studies on the Medical Humanities track with a focus on Clinical Ethics.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with minors in Biology and Medical Humanities from IUPUI (2019).

Brigitte’s current research area is still being formulated, but she has a vested interest in the human experience of pain and how that can impact the worldview of clinical patients.  She is interested in exploring how the uniqueness of each individual can affect the interaction between physicians and their patients.  She hopes to explore ways to improve the physician-patient interaction through deeper understanding of the patient experience.
